The Diploma
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33
Henry is a college graduate who majored in physics. He is the fifth child out of six who were born into one of the poorest Zhuang villages. He is the only person in his family who was able to go to college and receive a diploma. For the three years he attended college, his parents had saved every penny they could by selling rice and vegetables for his tuition fees. Doing so, they had kept one single hope in mind: that some day their son would get a well-paid job and change the family’s destiny by paying off their debt, buying a new house, and so on.
It’s been almost three years since he received that glorious diploma, but he is still hunting for a job, unable to fulfill his parents’ expectations. Day after day, he feels the burden grow heavier and heavier. To make matters worse, his girlfriend’s parents forced them to break off their relationship because of Henry's family background and present unemployment. He feels more and more in despair because he once thought the college diploma would solve all his problems, yet now his dreams seem shattered to pieces.
This story is becoming more and more common for many college graduates, as more and more people get an education, but the job opportunities do not necessarily increase at the same rate. Pursuing higher education cannot provide true meaning of life. Only in Jesus Christ, can they find the ultimate meaning of their lives.
Please pray for the young Zhuang men who are swept away by this materialistic way of thinking. Please pray that they may find their true hope and future in Christ.
Praise:
1. That Jesus Christ came as Saviour for the Zhuang!
2. For another 4 new believers in a Zhuang village! This is the village where a woman has recently returned after being healed from an dog bite wound.
Pray:
1. For Henry, that he would find Jesus and that he would find work to support himself and his family
2. For students that will be hearing the Christmas story during this time of year from classmates, friends and teachers. Pray that they would find peace with God.
3. Pray for wisdom and security issues related to Christmas activities among students.
