“...The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work.” 1 John 3:8b

A family living in the city was really excited about a new job opportunity for their daughter.  The mother, however, realized that the first day was an “unlucky” day.  Therefore she strongly encouraged her daughter to start work the following day.  The last time she did not heed her mother's warning something bad did happen!

A friend recently translated a list of Zhuang taboos.  In an animistic worldview, various spirits, including the spirits of the ancestors, need to be appeased in order to avoid problems in life.  Educated city people “believe” in science and in evolution ... but there is still a part of them that feels the need to appease the spirits.  It is also common for some parents to “motivate” their children by telling them that if they are not good or don't stop crying the “bad spirits” will get them.  Animistic practices often are most easily seen in events surrounding births, deaths, weddings, illness, and the various yearly festivals.
