February 22nd, 2008 - Vietnamese Christmas in Malaysia

Vietnamese Christmas in Malaysia
2003 was the first year Vietnamese workers in Malaysia enjoyed Christmas events specially organized for them in their language. Christmas 2007, no fewer than 8,000 Vietnamese workers attended Vietnamese Christmas events throughout the country! More than 1,500 professed faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. Praise Him!

One factory in Malaysia has about 600 Vietnamese women living in 60 different apartments. Outsiders are not allowed in which makes contact almost impossible. One outreach worker had befriended a few individuals through legal assistance rendered to their friends. This outreach worker wanted to meet these individuals in order to give them invitations to the Christmas events. But how to contact them?

As the outreach worker waited outside the hostel gate wondering how to get in, a Vietnamese lady worker appeared and greeted her. Yes, hello! Who is this lady, she wonders? As it turned out, she is from the same apartment as her contact! The invitation brochures are gratefully passed to her.

3 other outreach workers try to meet another contact by eating dinner outside the hostel gates hoping to see their contact when she comes home from work. Scores of workers came out from the hostel and appeared to be going for night shift. Some workers trickled back to the hostel at 7:50 p.m. impatient to get in. The contact was not in sight. Then quite unexpectedly, a SMS is received from the contact confirming that she is doing overtime until 9 p.m! As they wait, they see a lady worker coming back from the factory and feel compelled to go and speak to her. Amazingly, the lady is receptive and says she will invite her friends. She then says that she knows the outreach worker because she lives in the same apartment as Miss H, the very lady they are trying to contact!

The night of the Christmas event arrives and it was time to pick up the workers from their apartments. One of the ladies said to the outreach worker, “Do you know that we have met before? 4 years ago, my friend and I traveled 20 kms to attend the Christmas event to which 500 of us Vietnamese went. You were among the organizers. We remember you.”

The outreach worker was stunned. He did not remember these 2 Vietnamese ladies but God did! Now God was giving them a second chance to hear the truth and love of Jesus. What can we say about the love of God for the Vietnamese people? It is INCREDIBLE!!
