A few believers spend one evening each week ministering to prostitutes. Some of the prostitutes work in brothels, others on the street. A lot of the girls tell us that they work out of free will. The money is a major motivation for almost all of them. Some girls make four to five times more money than someone who works in the supermarket. Often they say… just one year or just another month, and then I’ll stop. But the reality is often so different. There is always something else they want to buy. It is also very difficult to find another job after a ‘career’ as a prostitute.

Some of the girls are forced into prostitution by a pimp or their ‘boyfriend’. The women on the street are usually the more difficult cases. They don’t have the ‘protection’ of a brothel. Their income is very low. One to five US$ per client!! Some of them say they do it all safe. But we also met a few ladies that let it depend on the client. Condoms are too expensive. They had never heard of AIDS or other diseases.

There are still a lot of things that need to be developed. There is an apartment where the girls can stay while looking for other possibilities for work. There are some good projects available in the capital of the province where the girls can go to work.
