The Tai Dam are a proud people, who enjoy their own tradition and customs.  However, like most humans, if everyone else around them is doing something new or different, then they will also tend to do that also.

Tuy is a typical Tai Dam man.  He has never known anything about a loving Creator God. However, he does know about a great spirit in the sky, who has some sort of "super" ability!  Whether this god knows or cares about humans is unknown.  Tuy carries on his typical Tai Dam ancestor worship, but he is also trying some of the local Lao customs to see if they will bless him also.

The surrounding Lao people do not have any understanding of a Creator, but rely on good works or making merit, following the practices of their ancestors, or going to the spirit priests.  The Basi is one ceremony that the Lao are well known for and which they perform.  Now Tuy and other Tai Dam have begun to do this "wrist tying ceremony."  The debate continues as to what the real purpose of this ceremony is for. Is it spiritual or just as a show of love and care for another?  Thank you for your partnership in this ministry!
