January 19th, 2005 - One Village With Joy
Tai Dam Quick Facts:
-Population of 1 Million
-Religion of animism and ancestor worship
-Settled agriculturists who cultivate wet rice
-Less than 0.1% are Christian
The
Tai Dam people group are spread across several
countries, Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. Pockets
of refugees are also found in the US and
France. Because the population in Thailand is
so small (20,000) compared to Laos (120,000) and
Vietnam (800,000), we often don't focus a lot of
our attention there. However, that isn't to say
that God is not at work!! He is...Praise His
great Name.
One
village has been experiencing great joy, as
people long cold to the Truth, are warming to
it's reality. Children are being led to faith,
and bodies are being healed. Glory to God! At a
recent Christmas celebration sponsored by the
church (a total of about 10 people) in the
village, a couple of other local churches in the
area attended, assisted, and shared the blessing
of Christ. It was a very exciting to see people
come close to the meeting in order to observe
what was going on. We pray, Father,
that the small struggling group of believers
would be strong in the face of any opposition or
animosity, and that each person would be
obedient to share what they know with others.
Several members have attended meetings for a few
years, but never been bold enough to lead out in
prayer. Father, we praise You, the God of all
love, that these people are now leading out in
worship, prayer, reading, and sharing of the
Scriptures. May this become more
natural for them and even exciting, as they see
new people become interested in His love for
them.
We
will try and get some help for this group of
believers...maybe a two day training to help
encourage the leaders in different things they
can and should be doing with this group, i.e.,
sharing their testimony, a Bible overview
course, helping them see what the Good News is,
etc. Please pray that God would give us
wisdom as we seek to put this together.
Today, the Taidam are learning the value of
crop rotation and soil enriching crops, as
they are forced more and more to live and
work on only one piece of land.
Pray that God will send more people
to work with the Taidam people. May there be
a great harvest of Taidam souls someday!
Matt. 9:38 Therefore pray the
Lord of the harvest to send out laborers
into His harvest.
