Tai Khamti are a Shan-Tai group that
live in the far west of Burma, bordering India. Similar to
other Tai groups they favour the valleys and riverbanks over
the mountains.
Whilst there are many groups reaching tribal groups such as the Nagas, the Tai Khamti remain almost untouched by the Gospel. They are very hard to access from other parts of Burma and amongst the estimated population of about 100 000 there are about 35 Christians. Recently an effort has been made to encourage mission minded Christians in India to reach out to Tai Khamti. Tai Khamti are also present in Assam.
