January 17th, 2008 -Christmas Outreach

Christmas at a Sgaw Karen village and the outreach with a medical team went extremely well. We had expected 300+ people for Christmas, but over 500 turned up, so much that the evangelist who organized it was afraid he would not have enough food ready. We prayed together and reminded ourselves that the Lord not only fed 500 but 5000 at a time.

In the end eight pigs, three cows and two goats were enough to feed the crowd. The medical team saw over 400 patients in four different villages. Many unbelievers were at the celebration and heard of the love of God in the Christmas story.

We received some blankets from a Christian organization which we distributed to scattered villages. At this cold season they were very welcomed.

Some Karen came spontaneously told us that the medicine had helped them. Christmas celebration also had opened doors to talk about the Lord.

From 5th-7th January we were teaching the chronological Bible course at our centre in Thibokhi. Over 30 Karen from several villages came to a chronological Bible course for the fourth time. On Sunday one family in the village turned to the Lord for the first time.

There are nearly 20 households in the Karen village of  T who have believed but only a few have a deeper understanding of the gospel. In this village there are several Tuberculosis patients and a medical team took very expensive medicines for them. The medicine should be taken over the next six months. Medicines for four patients for the next 50 days was given out. Then, the medical team will go and visit them again and bring more.

Some families in the village of PL (20 houses) showed a lot of interest in the gospel. Three young fathers had said that they wanted to believe in God. But then their parents or parents-in-law stopped them, saying that they had to finish off the spirit worship in the right way first, afterwards they would be free to turn to God together.
