Come on Down!
Mrs. Candy knew nothing of the Good News except that a few of her distant relatives followed the Jesus Way. But it made no difference to her until one day she started to experience all sorts of weird things.
A power came into her body and drove her to insane behavior. A demon had entered her. Her husband and parents tried to calm her but she climbed into the rafters of the house and stayed their like a monkey in a tree – irrational, neglecting her child and family.
So the relatives called the spirit medium. When he called her down from the rafters Mrs. Candy came down, kicked the spirit paraphernalia out of the medium’s hand and retreated to her perch. The family called the witch doctor. He could not get anywhere with her.
Finally Candy asked the family to call Uncle Ben, the one who follows the Jesus Way. There are very few believers among the Phuan so many had heard that Uncle Ben had a new belief. As soon as Uncle Ben drove into Mrs. Candy’s neighborhood she felt calm. “Jesus is coming,” she said. When Uncle Ben came into the house he asked Mrs. Candy to “come on down” and she quietly left the rafters and came down. Uncle Ben and another Christian brother read the Bible and then prayed with Mrs. Candy. She was delivered!
“Now you must believe in Jesus,” Uncle Ben explained. Mrs. Candy was more than willing but the rest of the family was adamantly opposed. “Uncle Ben’s spirit is the worst of all!” they said. “How else could it command a demon to leave? Have nothing to do with the Bible or with the Jesus Way!”
- Please pray for Mrs. Candy – caught between the grace of God and the fears of her family.
- Pray against the prejudices of the Phuan people. Satan has blinded them with the same lie that the Pharisees believed, “He casts out demons by the power of Beelzabub.”
