Luck and Water
Mr. M calls himself lucky - his well is only 10 meters deep, yet it hasn't run dry. The neighbors come and get water. Even though their well is 11 meters deep it has run dry. Once every 3 to 4 days the neighbors arrive with a big electric pump and a hose, and fill their water tank.
Mr. M comments on the price of the pump - it's expensive, but they can afford it; the neighbor works for the customs department. He only has to work one month in three, because customs officials can earn so much money through corruption.
It costs a lot to go for training to become a customs official and family connections help. Perhaps one could understand a poor person fiddling the fines to feed his family, but if you have a good job anyway...?
Mr. M says "Corruption is discussed endlessly in meetings; teachers could have a good wage if the proper import / export duties were collected" and then he adds ruefully "When the ridge of the roof leaks, the whole roof gets wet".
- Praise God has not left people without the witness of their conscience.
- Pray the Holy Spirit will rouse people consciences that those who cheat will be condemned in their hearts and repent.
