Working for Merit
During Grandpa knows how to work. With his shovel and a wheelbarrow he can level a rice field with incredible accuracy. He builds dykes, digs foundations and advises the younger men on digging wells.
Grandpa is also on the local Buddhist temple committee. He is very proud of his efforts to contribute to the local temple and the other day he let it be known that he was making a special contribution – $20 which is 5 days worth of work. This year the temple sponsored a big festival that ran for 3 nights. Grandpa worked hard, sitting by the offering box throughout the festival collecting people’s alms. Thousands came, especially the young, to play games of chance and meet other young people. “It was a great success,” Grandpa reported, “We made a lot of money this year.”
- Pray for elderly Phuan people. They work till they die. They strive to make merit, hoping for some kind of better future.
- Pray that the Good News will reach them.
- Pray they will receive it with joy.
