Sing and his wife had seven children - good number for a subsistence farmer. More kids you have the more laborers are available in the family.
But as his children were growing up his wife took ill and died. As the years rolled by he kept his eyes open for a new companion but there were few to be had until he met Peta.
Peta was 40 years his junior but no one wanted to marry her – she had deformed feet. So he proposed and she said yes.
A year later a baby girl was born and 72 year old Sing was the talk of the neighborhood. “Kid cries so much at night,” the old man complained and then added with a laugh, “I can’t get a decent sleep!’ “Keep this up,” others teased, “and you won’t live long enough to see your new daughter into school.” Grandpa Sing is one of a kind these days – an old man with a newborn in his arms.
- Grandpa Sing and all the people in this story are real people. They are Lao Phuan living in northern Laos. Grandpa Sing’s little daughter was born just 2 weeks ago. As you read this, stop and pray for each of the people you have just read about. None of them know the Savior; none of them know what it means to be His child.
