March 27th during the annual Mien Believer’s conference, excitement was building as just before 9 a.m. the Mien formed a line on the far side of the Bible College campus.
Heading the procession were 4 men playing traditional Mien instruments of gongs, drums, horns & cymbals. Immediately behind were 2 sets of 4 young Mien men, each
group of 4 carrying a large, beautifully wrapped gift box – full of Mien Bibles! Key people involved in the translation came next followed by Mien in their bright traditional clothing and many others. Together they walked into the open sided chapel following the musicians.
At the front of the chapel some Mien Bibles were displayed on a table by the pulpit, some were open and some closed.
Throughout the conference teaching was given on the importance of God’s Word for our daily lives. All through the chapel people were searching the Scriptures, looking up texts long familiar, or trying to pronounce many of the Old Testament book names that they have never even seen before, or trying to read many of the unfamiliar passages, and
some trying to figure out where things were on the 10 colored maps at the back of the Bible.
The Mien Bible has been printed in 4 different scripts or alphabets as Mien in different countries use different scripts. And all 4 were back from the printers at the same time! Each Mien at the conference was able to choose the Bible in the alphabet that was easiest for him or her to read, yet the wording was identical in each.
- The Mien Bible is now in print in 4 different scripts after close to 27 years of work on it! Now pray that the books won’t just be put on shelves to collect dust but will be read and searched and studied and obeyed.
