November 2007 - Yi and Lao
Yi
Most of the 1 million Yi Nisu live in mountainous villages in China. Some organizations have been cooperating to translate the Jesus film into one of the Nisu dialects. Now there is the Jesus film, God Story, the book of Luke, and chronological Biblical stories in that dialect of Nisu. Praise God!
Unfortunately the believers in this dialect area have not been receptive to this translation because the majority of the Nisu people speak both Nisu and Mandarin. The believers felt it would be good to wait on studying the Bible in Nisu as most Nisu of this dialect can read the Mandarin Christian books they already have. It has been decided to start working in another dialect area, which is not as bi-lingual.
-Ask God to call Nisu people from this dialect area to reach out to Nisu people in other dialect areas. Pray Nisu laborers into the harvest field.
In “3 Fork Village” 7 Nisu believers have been holding firm for the past 4 years. They are illiterate and can’t read their Mandarin Bibles. In August, two believers went to this village, riding motorbikes for hours in the rain on incredible muddy roads. They were able to encourage the believers, pray with them and sing together. The believers needed encouragement as the corn crop was not good this year and one of the believers was discouraged that her husband and two children have not yet believed.
-Pray God would bring Nisu men to Himself. At this point, at least 90% of those who have believed are women.
Lao
It seems there is widespread spiritual hunger and openness to the Good News among many people in Laos. With this openness and opportunities, the pressure and opposition against the kingdom of God is increasing. Many are turning to God both among the lowland Lao and the minority people groups and many are being persecuted. Many are standing strong, some have become ‘secret believers’ and some have denied their faith under severe pressure.
-Please pray for thousands of Lao to be “good soil” – those who have a ‘good and noble heart, hear the word of God, retain it and through perseverance produce good fruit”.
