Scaffolding
Hudson Taylor’s passionate desire was that national believers would be given the leadership of their own churches and have control over their own affairs. Is it ours? One pattern of how we should be planning is Model-Assist-Watch-Leave.
From the beginning, we are planning to go. Whatever we do, we are never planning that this would be “our ministry,” but that it would belong to the local people and local leaders. Are we doing this? Are we planning and acting like scaffolding? This calls us to be mentors, not pastors and servants, not masters.

- Please pray all Mekong workers will be mentors and servants - modeling, assisting, and when appropriate leaving the local believers to be pastors and leaders among their peoples.
Mien (Yao)
Why wouldn't Job 42 typeset in the way it was formatted? Finally, after many futile attempts we finally found the reason - one little
{ instead of a
[ meant the last 5 chapters of Job would not typeset properly! The Mien Bible translation project is so close to being finished – and yet, the 2 main translators write, “We have been really struggling to keep going over these last few weeks. We don't intend to give up, but some days, when the checking and correcting seems never ending, we wonder how much longer it can possibly take.”
- Pray everything will be ready for the printers – in all four scripts – by October 1, 2006. Please ask God to do this impossible thing!
- Please pray for those involved to be alert to flaws in formatting. They need accuracy in four areas: 1) the meaning of the text itself, 2) in spelling, 3) the codes required for the text to pass through the change tables to produce 4 scripts and 4) the codes for typesetting so it will all come out looking like a Bible!
Shan - Tai
“We pulled back in some of what we were doing when we became aware of someone investigating us. After reflecting, researching and praying we think we should keep moving ahead trusting God to protect us. Proverbs 28:1 says that “the righteous are bold as a lion” and we don’t want to be so cautious that they dynamism of a faith that turns the world upside down is lost.”
Mekong Shan – Tai Worker
- Please pray that a bold fearlessness toward the intimidations of the enemy would fill all the Shan - Tai.
- The hard drinking husband of a lady in P village has made a commitment to Christ. Please pray for him to stand strong and grow through the inevitable backlash from his old buddies.
- Over a dozen Tai people are meeting in the city to worship our Majestic One. Until now this city has been one tough nut to crack for the gospel. Could this be a new beginning? The people in this group are lower on the status scale, but God delights to use the humble. Pray for the life of Christ to so fill the church here that it spills over to many in this city.
- First Friday Fast - Would you like to join some of the Mekong Shan – Tai workers in fasting and prayer on the first Friday of every month for God’s work among the Shan – Tai in SE Asia?
