“Turn away from the sins of skepticism and despair, mistrust and cynicism, complaining and worry. The gospel of grace calls us to sing of the everyday mystery of intimacy with God instead of always seeking for miracles or visions. It calls us to sing of the spiritual roots of such commonplace experiences as falling in love, telling the truth, raising a child, teaching a class, forgiving each other after we have hurt each other, standing together in the bad weather of life, of surprise and sexuality, and the radiance of existence…Grace abounds and walks around the edges of our everyday experience.” Brennan Manning -
The Ragamuffin Gospel
- Pray each Mekong member will turn away from these common sins and will live their everyday lives in the joy and trust of the gospel of grace.
Kham Tibetan
A nomad Tibetan family came to the city about two years ago. They have no education and since then they have made many bad decisions about how to spend money, so that they now hardly have money to buy food. The mother got very sick after giving birth 4 weeks premature to their third child in their home and went to the hospital without her baby. The baby was left for 3 days in the care of the 7 year old daughter.
The mother returned from hospital but is very afraid to be alone. She and her husband are convinced that evil spirits are in the house and they are the cause for the problems. Tonight they consulted with a ‘living Buddha’ and he told them to return to their hometown as soon as possible. Considering the mother’s condition and the circumstances of travel, this trip could be extremely dangerous for her.
The family told the Mekong workers over and over that not even their own relatives would have cared for them this way. The parents said that if they weren't Buddhist they would have aborted the baby because they had two children which is already too many.
- Pray that this family (and the thousands of Tibetan like them who live in fear and desperation) would be so desperate that they would come to Jesus, the only one who can give them life and rescue them from the terror in their hearts.
Tai Dam
Mr. S, a young Tai Dam man came to learn of God’s love through his aunt. He then shared his faith with his classmates, his family, and Tai Dam in another province. Sharing with his classmates ended up with him being called in for questioning by the police. Sharing with his family resulted in their anger to the point telling him to leave. Lastly, sharing the love of God with Tai Dam in another province got him chased out of the province by the police. After some time, Mr. S’s parents believed. Mr. S was able to lead a family to Christ in the province that he was chased out of. The family are going on in the faith despite difficult circumstances.
Mr. S was one of 4 Tai Dam that took the Chronological Training recently. He and another young man were very struck by the fact that Jesus was seen as a very “wicked man” from 12:00 – 3:00 pm on Good Friday.
- Please pray that the 6 young people that went through the training will follow through in teaching it to others. Please also pray that they would be wise and also bold in their planning of future witnessing opportunities. Praise God that faithful men and women among the Tai Dam are following Jesus and seeking to bless others with their new faith.
- Pray for the 30 day Prayer Guide for the Tai Dam. It has been months in process but we are running out of ideas and need God’s help to complete it. We're trying get it to press and out to you by this summer.
