August - Northern Hua Miao - Mien
   >> Latest Update                     >> Mekong Prayer Archive

There are approximately 680,000 Northern Hua Miao. Tools for getting the gospel to them are quite limited. What portions of Scripture exist are little used; there is no New Testament or full Bible translation. Christian radio programming is unavailable to them.

Current focus is to develop materials for the Black Hmong — a subset of the Northern Hua represented by at least 3 distinct dialects. A Black Hmong writing system needs to be devised and literacy training developed. In addition, a goal for this year is to prepare radio programming in Black Hmong. To do all this, a good team of dedicated workers must be forged.

Father, knowing Your great love for the Northern Hua we pray that You will:

     •
Break down barriers to their receptivity to the gospel. Cause a great movement of       Northern Hua to Christ.
•Put together a team which is passionate for you and for the unreached Northern       Hua; call forth team members including a linguist and those skilled to help with       radio programming.
•Advance the development of long-term relationships in key areas where the       Northern Hua live. Lead Christians to men of peace who can become key       evangelists to reach their own people.
•Cause government leaders to look with favor on Your servants working with the       Northern Hua.
•Give those who are learning the Black Hmong language unusual aptitude as they       study in coming weeks.
•Protect families of those who are working among the Hmong from ways Satan       would try to hinder ministry; particularly protect their children spiritually,       emotionally, & physically.

Lu Mien
Originating in China the Iu Mien are culturally very close to Chinese culture. Originally upland farmers. This is still true of many of them today. They migrated from the southern provinces of China down into Vietnam, Laos and Thailand. When Laos fell to the Communists in 1975 about 25000 became refugees. Most of them were resettled in the States.

The main religion of the Mien is Daoism. There is animism and ancestor veneration, but the spirit priests use Daoist ritual books.

Translation of the entire Bible into Mien nearly completed. Literacy materials and very limited other reading matter. Daily broadcasts in the Mien language. Jesus film and video are available in the Mien language.

Pray:
     •
Pray for the head of the Mien radio team who is getting married and moving to a       different country. Pray that if it is the Lord's will they would return to SE Asia.
•We are currently running 2 Mien training centers to train them to go out for       evangelism.
•3 months ago a new worker joined the Mien team and a family will join the team at       the end of July.  We are happy to see God sending workers to us.
•For grace and steadfastness for those Mien who are being persecuted in       Communist countries.
•For Mien Churches to have a missionary vision to reach their own people
•For the Holy Spirit to be poured out in renewal on the Mien church in China, Laos,       Vietnam, Thailand and the USA.
