Black Hmong
Imagine that your natïve language is Spanish but you know a little Portuguese and a bit of Italian. There are very, very few Spanish-speaking Christians. Worship for you means singing hymns in Portuguese, listening to the Bible read in Italian, and listening to a sermon in Portuguese. You can pray in your heart language, Spanish. That scenario illustrates the great need for getting the Bible and teaching materials translated into Black Hmong.
The vast majority of Black Hmong haven’t heard the gospel at all. Available to the few Christians are hymns in White or Blue Hmong, White and Blue Hmong Bibles, and preaching in Blue Hmong. They pray in their own dialect.
March 8 is the target date for starting Black Hmong radio broadcasts. Before then, the radio team needs to edit, mix, and assemble 53 chronological teaching lessons into 30-minute broadcasts. Twenty-two other messages about what it means to be a believer in Christ were recently recorded and must be edited for clarity. These will form the basis for later broadcasts.
To facilitate believers’ worship, simple background music has been recorded; vocals in Black Hmong must be added so that songs can be taught on the air. Imagine the joy when believers hear worship songs in their own language, not someone else’s!
Workers are finding insatiable hunger for the Word. Beyond expectations, over 500 VCDs of Biblical teaching were distributed recently…and this in a group which is basically unreached.
Pray:
- Thank You, Father, for Your great love for the Black Hmong. Place deep longing in them for joy and peace. When they hear about You in their own language, help them recognize You as the way to peace.
- Give strength to the radio team; help broadcast preparations to proceed quickly without interruptions or delays.
- Multiply the effectiveness of the VCDs as you multiplied the loaves and fishes. Let them pass from family to family so that many, many will hear of You. Satisfy their spiritual hunger with Your word.
- Encourage leaders recently trained to pass on what they have learned; overcome obstacles—physical, political, spiritual--which would prevent their doing so.
- Father, You know the spiritual and physical attacks on your messengers and their families just now. Intervene on their behalf.
