This winter in China has seen the worst weather in 5 decades. In Guizhou province, the homeland of the Bouyei people, snow and sleet have cut electricity and tap water since January 15. Guizhou has seen 30 deaths, including 25 who died from a bus accident due to icy road conditions. There have been 1631 collapsed homes from the icy weather conditions. The price of coal has also climbed from 8 RMB to 14 RMB per kilogram. Many Bouyei have had hardship in buying coal to heat their houses at the lower price, so now they do not have financial ability to heat their homes.
The biggest holiday celebration of the year (Chinese New Year) is next week, on February 7th. Many Bouyei who have been forced to work in big cities like Guangzhou and Shenzhen are trying to return to their families in Guizhou for the festivities. Weather has stranded more than 40,000 in at least 5000 broken down vehicles on expressways between neighboring provinces and Guizhou province.
Please pray:
· That Bouyei families will be able to stay warm during this weather crises.
· For comfort for those families who have lost loved ones. Pray that they will meet Jesus.
· For Christian workers to be able to travel into Bouyei areas safely.
· That this catastrophe will be used for His glory among the Bouyei.
