Is the Bible the Word of God?

One Sunday as I was teaching about the rich man and Lazarus I was very discouraged. In fact I was upset inside but did not let feelings show. I was teaching in a Akha church that is 13 years old.

I asked the men “Where did the rich man go after he died?” Only one man replied “I am not sure.” Then I said, “OK I will read the word of God again and tell me what God said about him.”  Then he replied “That is what others said about him, not God.”

I thought this church to be one of the best Akha churches in the area as it has regular services and most of the members have been coming to the church for 13 years.

But they have no confidence that the Bible is the word of God. What is wrong ? Is it because I could only visit this village four times a year? Their pastor has come regularly to the monthly training at the Akha center. Most of the members followed their parents or their Headman to be a Christian. I belief this is one of the reasons.

As a result, in the Leadership Training last week, I taught them again about the Bible, the word of God. I was worried that even the church leaders do not believe the Bible to be the word of God. We studied together and went through several references in the Bible.
