Every five days, Nisu people leave their villages in the
mountains, and travel down to their “market town.” These
towns are usually located in a valley, surrounded by
mountains. Market day begins very early for most of the
Nisu, who usually have to walk several miles in order to
reach their market town. When they arrive, the people
buy and sell fruits, vegetables, rice, livestock, and
meat. Their entire economy is based upon these market
days.
Market day is a time when the normally quiet, slow
moving town, suddenly overflows with life. It is a
great opportunity for the Nisu people to catch up
with friends from other villages. These days
provide a social setting for the Nisu people to
connect with each other, and it unifies them as a
people. Apart from their own traditional festivals,
market days are the best time to observe the Nisu
interacting together in large numbers.
We
believe these market days, will play a vital role in
church planting efforts, and the spread of the
Gospel among the Nisu, because they provide a
natural avenue for communication to take place and
for people to meet together.
Please Pray:
- God would give us wisdom in knowing how to
utilize market towns and market days for His
