Wa Quick Facts:
-The Majority of Wa live in Myanmar
- Famous for their past involvment in  headhunting and opium trade
-In the early 20th century Christianity  spread among the Wa living on the  Myanmar-Yunnan border area

During the rainy season of last July and August, we tried to improve our school buildings. We built three cement classrooms and one staff dormitory . Many students who used to study with us would rather come to the new school. These students formerly took their studies in Chinese but the government changed the school to teach in Burmese instead of Chinese.

Because of this language difficulty the students choose to come to the new school even though it meant they had to walk 16 kilometers round-trip every day . When the school started on Sept 6, 270 children walked the 16 kilometers to school. 150 of these were less than 10 years old. Every morning, students started to walk around 6:00 in the morning and arrived at school around 7:45. After five and one half hours at school, they walked home together. Then they had to  help their family with the field work or other housework. They had only a little time to do their homework each night. During class, they would stand up in order to keep themselves awake. The teachers were very touched by their persistence.

After the new school has been running for eight week, they received orders from the government that all students from the older school had to go back to the government sponsored school . And the school, in return, would allow classes to be taught in Chinese from 1:00 to4:00 in the afternoon.

School started again on March 7 th with 850 students with 28 teachers.
     •
In order to serve the rising number of students, we have to recruit and train more       teachers. Please pray for love, wisdom and endurance. We also plan to change       the old bamboo walled classrooms to cement buildings. Please pray.

Since last October, the government has not been very stable. There have been many unexpected policy changes.
•Please pray for us to have a peaceful environment and fruitful ministry so       that more Wa will turn and believe in Jesus.
•Main prayer item is related to the government leadership change a number of       weeks ago. People are being asked (ordered) to hand over their new vehicles       to the government by March 31st.  The team has 3 vehicles. They would be       greatly inconvenienced if they no longer have these vehicles. Please PRAY that       some unusual miracle would take place, thus allowing the school to keep their       vehicles and not lose them to the government.
