A Faith Aflame
Mrs L is an
energetic Christian businesswoman with two young
children and a non-Christian husband. Her in-laws do
not like her faith and have long tried to make her
life difficult. This is largely why, a year ago, as
soon as they had the money, L and her husband and
children moved out of the in-laws large shared house
into a place of their own.
When she moved we
somehow lost touch. What a joy to recently re-meet
her and find her faith still aflame. Then she told
me something of the past year. After moving, the
family kept getting ill. She had the strangest
symptoms: at the office all day she felt fine, but
whenever at home she had terrible headaches and
exhaustion, especially on Sundays so she could never
get to church. After a while she learnt indirectly
that her mother-in-law had got a spirit-doctor to
put a curse on her!
Relatives who knew
that she knew, were amazed by her reaction – that
she did not hate or seek to get revenge on her
mother-in-law. Then after a few more months, this
spirit doctor very suddenly died! Ever since then,
Mrs L and her family have been as healthy as
can be, her children are now enjoying Sunday school
each week – and beginning to evangelize their
father! Meanwhile her mother-in-law has become quite
ill.
Opposition from
family members can take many forms. But certainly
the spirit world is ‘obvious’. Praise God for his
protection of
Mrs L and pray on for the
salvation of her husband and relatives. Pray for
those in similar spiritual battles.
Praise God for:
- Keeping Mrs L’s
faith strong, despite such strong opposition
- Mrs L’s
children’s chance to go to Sunday school
Pray for:
- The conversion of
Mrs L’s husband and family
- The Lord to be
merciful and bring salvation to many other
families throughout Vietnam in a similar
situation
- Vietnamese to see
the folly of superstition and spirit-doctor’s,
and turn to the God of wisdom and truth instead
