A wonderful team of 10 Christian young people
went to visit a Sgaw Karen Christian
village. The team took part in four
services in 24 hour' time. The Karen church
received them warmly and out of their
poverty shared their homes, their food and
even gave gifts of hand woven clothing and
shoulder bags. The teenagers led lively
worship and the older folks readily
followed. Worship included corporate
"dancing" to modern gospel songs as well as
familiar old hymns sung in harmony. It is
quite common to sing hymns written by local
believers also.
Many of
the believers are involved in evangelism to
neighboring villages that are several hours
walk away. M, a local evangelist is very
zealous in bringing the gospel to more
distant unreached Karen villages. But his
trips can be dangerous. Currently he does
not have a co-worker to go with him. Some
Karen who worship the spirits are very
opposed to his message.
- He
requests prayer for
himself to be strong and to have a new
co-laborer. Pray for
his wife and children as he is often
away for several days at a time.
- And pray for the young team
that they will remember this short
mission experience and that God may call
some of them to give their lives to full
time cross cultural ministry.
- Finally pray for God to call
forth a few more full time missionaries
to work with the Sgaw Karen. There is
one couple who are doing a great job but
much more could be accomplished with
some missionary co-laborers.
