Lao Quick Facts:
-Population of 3.3 Million in Laos  and over 17 Million in N.E. Thailand
-Animist with a veneer of syncretistic,  folk Buddhism
-Daniel McGillvary was the first  missionary to the Lao in the late 1800's
Just start talking…
“In Thailand they have freedom to share the Gospel but people’s hearts are hard and there is little response. Whereas here we do not have the same freedom to evangelize but people readily believe when they hear the good news.”

People here are ready to believe in great numbers. In the past 6 years in one Northern Province the number of churches has grown from 3 to 11 and there are now 100s of new believers where there was previously just a handful.

Someone recently prayed about how to share with their staff and not being able to come up with a good opening line simply asked, “Have you ever heard about Jesus? Do you want to me to tell you about him now?”  Despite the blunt introduction, the response was positive and they spent the next 2 days studying parables and discussing the truth. Some others prayed all week about how to share their faith with their house owners as neither of them felt gifted in evangelism. But when the house owners came for lunch they spent virtually all the time answering their questions about what Christians believe and talking about the Lord. It was so easy!

…but expect opposition
Miss H and other leaders in her province were recently lectured by government officials on religious activity and obeying the law. The 6 believers in her area who were arrested for constructing a church building have been released. However, Mr BJ has been in prison since 1999 on a harsh 15 year sentence on charges of treason against the state but really it is because he is a believer in Jesus. He has seen the 2 others arrested with him die in prison and he himself is getting old, sick and discouraged.
