Manure in the School
“What is the story with Leaning Village School? The classroom buildings are broken down and cattle and water buffalo are in the school yard? It is dark and dirty and very run down?”
“It is a sad and hopeless case. The school headmaster has a continual headache over it. He wants to operate an effective village elementary school - but he cannot. Some people have been forcefully re-located from the countryside to this village. Some of them have set up their houses and their cattle pens on the school grounds. They have been asked to move off the school property but they refuse to do so.”
“Also, some bad people in this community – I don’t know who they are – want to make trouble. One day when the students went to school someone had shoveled a lot of manure into the classroom. It was very smelly. At the best, there is very little money available for education and resources are almost non-existent. With the added problems of Leaning Village School it seems hopeless to try and make things better … and so the elementary age children here are not getting educated.”
Please pray
- Pray for the teachers of Laos – they would be encouraged in their work and influential responsibility even though their pay is often inadequate and their resources often minimal.
- Pray for the children and young people of Laos – most of whom do not have opportunity for a good basic education.
- Pray for good Lao literature to be developed and made available.
