Lao Quick Facts:

-Animist with a veneer of syncretistic, folk Buddhism
-Daniel McGillvary was the first missionary to the Lao in the late 1800's
Most Lao believers think that you need a special person to do religion for you. In Buddhist temples the monks say the special formulaic prayers in Pali on your behalf and you don’t need to participate or understand for it to be effective. Similarly, many Christians think that you need a religious teacher to lead communion, baptize and pray for you. Others don’t pray much because they think it has to be in the special ‘royal’ vocabulary that they hear used in church.
“Older sister, please pray for our mother who’s in a very inappropriate relationship. When you pray, God answers. It’s much better than when we pray.”
“Mr. T was ready to believe in Jesus, so we took him to the Pastor so he could pray with him and lead him to Christ.”
“I’m scared of leading services because when praying I’m afraid that I won’t know the right words.”
Therefore, it is exciting that Mrs. S shared her vision for facilitating a prayer movement in Laos. S said that she’d prayed for 3 years for co-workers to help her in teaching and encouraging other Lao Christians in praying for their nation and the world. Now Mrs. S has found a co-worker in this important ministry!
Pray
-Mrs. S will model prayer as a priority in her own life and demonstrate dependence on God. There is a need to be close to God as it’s a huge responsibility to be leading others in prayer. Pray for protection.
-For the Holy Spirit’s leading in writing a monthly prayer bulletin in Lao for the Lao believers.
-For the successful, safe and timely distribution of the monthly prayer bulletins to every group of Jesus’ followers throughout the nation of Laos. Pray that the official church will endorse these bulletins as that would greatly facilitate distribution.
-For these prayer bulletins to encourage Lao people to pray with greater faith, fervency and insight for Laos and the world.
-To raise up people with a burden for intercession in each people group and region. Pray that they will regularly gather others around them to pray
