Despite much effort to reach them with the Gospel, by the year 2004 there was no known follower of Christ. But our God still has his mind set on these people, the Lanten. A was a Shaman and lost his first wife through sickness. He was already separated from his second wife, when a friend told him of Jesus. He then began a new life with God. Because he was young and had been a Shaman he could tell his relatives, that this new God was much stronger than all the spirits that they follow. God also granted healing to some people and so demonstrated his power.
A was the first Lanten, who truly understood the Grace and Salvation of Jesus Christ and is wholeheartedly following Him. God is also speaking to other people. We never can know all the details, but after some months many Lanten of two villages came to a living faith in God. The opium addiction stopped to almost zero.
The officials did not like this. Policemen started to interrogate these Christians and frighten them. They had to get rid of their Bibles and Christian literature. It was hard for them to meet on Sundays. Many were very discouraged and are now officially no longer Christians. A is sad about this turning of events but he does not give in. He has learned a lot during this time and he is still meeting with a few Lanten for Bible reading and prayer. Let’s pray for a new work of God’s Spirit despite all the hindrances.
