Somebody told me you should go to the VM church and there you can accept this religion freely, but in other places they won’t allow you. Then I went to VM church, but before I reached the church I met a Christian Khmu man who runs a guest house. He led me to Jesus Christ. The VM church is 100 years old and everyone who wants to accept Jesus has to go or claim that they accepted Jesus from that church; otherwise they will be arrested.
Then Mr. B went back to his village and started witnessing to his people, mainly 7 families, who all accepted Jesus Christ. During the first year of being Christians it was not much of a problem, but gradually the non-believers started to be unhappy. They began to accuse the believers of making noise and disturbing the spirits of the village. This accusation came as a result of the Christians no longer participating with them in any part of the rituals for the spirit festivals of the village. This led the believers to consider Christianity as a foreign religion.
The non-believers feel threatened. This problem is not unique to NH village. Unity is very important to Lao society. Unity in a Lao society means uniformity – everyone must do the same things and in the same way. If not, you are not united. This problem seems to be never ending. Pray!
