17 Khmu families in Laos
(119 people in all) have been evicted from their village because of
their faith in Christ. They had moved there from a distant province
8 years ago and were accepted, although they didn’t have relocation
papers from the government.
Two years ago these
families became Christians. Now the villagers have put a handwritten
sign on the house of each Christian family that says:
“We veto religion,
leave, leave, leave. You are not citizens of this village, leave,
leave, quickly, quickly, quickly. [We] will not acknowledge you as
residents, not accept, not accept - absolutely not accept you. Take
yourselves and leave within 10 days, leave, leave, quickly, quickly,
quickly. Truly we will not accept you.”
The authorities brought
trucks to take them to a distant place. These 119 people have lost
their rice fields and all their belongings. They desperately need
our prayers.
Pastor avoids gun shot
Earlier, a deputy to the
headman of the village attempted to kill the pastor, but he was able
to grab the gun and point it away so that he was not killed.
7 Khmu families forced to move
In one province a group
of seven families (53 people) moved from another province about 7
years ago. They are now being forced to leave their village because
they became Christians 2 years ago. They do not know where to go.
These people are very poor and have no one to help them. The
government may pressure them to renounce their faith in Jesus. Pray
that they may remain strong and that somehow they will receive mercy
and justice.
