All of
the people mentioned below
are Khmu. In spite of
intense persecution and
general social belittlement,
there has been a large
number of Khmu coming to
Christ! In the last
10
years or so, the number of
Christians has grown from
about 4,000 to roughly
48,000 believers.
This
group of 600,000 tribal
people
have only about 2
books of the Bible in
their heart language. The
third attempt to translate
the whole Bible into the
Khmu language is just
getting started. Pray that
the job will get done this
time.
The following
testimonies
were recorded at a Khmu Youth
camp and
translated into English.
These youth got legal
permissions to come to the
camp. The authorities at the
border questioned them and
only let them cross when
they could prove that they
were not Hmong.
Pray for Mr. Ko - He has
had thyroid problems. He had
offered many pigs and
chickens for sacrifices to
the spirits, with no
results. He has recently
believed in God. His family
and friends are persecuting
him. Pray that God will heal
his neck, perseverance in
his faith and his tormentors
to believe also.
Pray for Mr. Ma - He has
cancer in his chest. He is a
believer. The village
headman and police have
beaten him several times.
His whole family are
believers and face
harassment daily.
Pray
for perseverance.
Many
of these under persecution
feel discouraged and need
the joy of the Lord even in
such daunting circumstances.
Mr.
Kh - Has been beaten and cannot
quit coughing. He is in
hospital. The doctors will
not let his family and
friends pray for him there.
May God be glorified in that
the doctors can see answered
prayer even from a distance!
Miss Th - She is
still demon possessed.
Her
younger sister was recently
delivered from possession,
and has become a believer.
Pray
that Th will see the freedom
in Christ that her sister
has, and follow Jesus too.
She is 20 years old.
Miss Py - She is
12
years old. Only a few days
after becoming a believer,
the village headman sent
some guys to beat up her
mother and father. They in
turn beat Py until she would
deny her faith. She refused
to deny her faith and they
actually beat her to death.
She
later related an out–of–
body experience,
(Acts
14:19,
20?). Her family
still refuses to believe
even after her return from
death and treat her as if
she does not exist. There
are 4 other believers in her
village. She has to scrounge
a living from friends. Pray
for God to do a work not
just in the life of this
headman but also in many
others that resist God and
keep out the Gospel of
Christ.
Pray for the Khmu
to become a gateway people
group for the other tribes
in Laos and the Mekong
region to come and know
Jesus. The Khmu were one of
the pioneers in bringing the
gospel to the Hmong and are
even now leading the Lao and
others to Christ!
