What is it like to be a member of the Hmong broadcasting team? Does one sit with pen in hand praying for inspiration while writing lessons? Or sit in front of a studio microphone teaching many unseen listeners. Yes and yes.
They team bears other responsibilities too---answering correspondence, praying for isolated believers, bearing the burden of many who will not otherwise hear the gospel. An article on the FEBC website gives other insights.
A team recently set out to visit remote listeners. With no funds for motorbikes, they went by foot---across mountains and valleys. With one last mountain to climb – “high as the sky” one of them described it – they struggled toward their destination. One team member fainted from the effort.
Does it all make any difference? Having persevered, the team held Bible studies with people eager to hear the Word. These precious believers wept as they waved good-bye.
Reporting further on the team’s encounters, the FEBC report notes that everyone in one large church gathering had become believers through the broadcasts. In another church deep divisions had resulted in a decision to split. That day the daily broadcast announced a special series on unity. The leaders of the group decided to listen together, they repented, and the church stayed together.
The team has been—and is--under great attack. Credible reports this week say that at least one of the team members is being actively hunted by a government hostile to Christianity. One government has forbidden people to listen to the broadcasts. Stress, differences of opinion, misunderstandings can lead to disharmony.
PRAY!
Pray:
- Sovereign Lord, You are not surprised by Satan’s latest efforts to stop spread of Your Word. We boldly ask for Your protection of Your servants.
- Surround them with Your angels. Give their families deep peace and unity as they deal with very real personal threats. Instill God-given courage.
- Thwart Satan’s every attempt to prevent people who may never meet a Christian in person from hearing the gospel. Allow the broadcasts to continue their ministry of encouragement to isolated believers.
- Guide preparations—physical, spiritual, educational—for significant leadership training in upcoming days.
