The Horned Miao
God is at work among the Horned Miao! Three years ago there were 120 known Christians among them; that number has grown to 3000. Then there were two interested in being trained as workers; now there are 50.
The Horned Miao are distinguished by the women’s head pieces. First big wooden horns are tied on their heads. Around these horns are wound cords of hair made from the hair of the woman’s deceased relatives. These cords are handed down through generations.
Tradition says the custom began as the result of a hunt. After a villager caught a beautiful golden pheasant, the awed villagers desired to dress as beautifully as the pheasant.
Pray:
- Thank You, Father, for the increase of Your work among the Horned Miao. Prosper the continued spread of the good news of Jesus. Thwart every scheme of Satan to hinder its spread.
- Inspire those who are working on literature development for various Hmong groups—training materials, story booklets, the Word. Enable them to present concepts clearly and simply.
- Break through logistical barriers so that key Hmong leaders can connect in person for mentoring and leadership development.
- Do way more than we can ask or think, Father, to resolve visa issues, heal physical problems, and provide financial needs of those working among the Hmong.
