--during Abraham’s lifetime—there is mention of the Miao
(Hmong) in written Chinese history. During their
long history, they have faced slaughter from ruling powers
who have burned their villages and driven them to the high
mountains for refuge. The fact that they speak
more than 80 diverse dialects has further isolated
them. Who could find them? Who would
take them Good News?
Risk takers. In the late 1800’s missionaries trickled into Miao territories—facing sickness, loss of loved ones, even martyrdom. In 2003 prayer walkers met a 105-year old man who said, “When I was 10 years old, a white man came from England. He took a boat across the ocean to get here. He leftg everything he had. I don’t know why he would do that just to come here and tell me about Jesus, but my life has never been the same since.”
In some areas Miao became Christians by the hundreds. In other areas there is no trace that Christianity has ever been there. Literally, millions of Miao wait to hear about Jesus for the very first time. Messengers are very few. Who are the 21st century risk-takers who will go to the Hmong/Miao with the Good News?
