The 60,000 Horned Miao get their name
from the large horn-shaped wooden combs
around which the women wrap their
hair. Among the thousands of Horned Miao,
there are only 120 known Christians.
The needs for evangelization are
daunting. None of the Horned Miao are
literate in Hmong, although some may be
in Chinese. There are no translated
Bible portions; in fact, an alphabet
needs to be devised and a primer
developed.
At present are no audio materials to
assist in evangelism or teaching. The
Jesus film has not been translated into
their dialect. Christian radio programs
do not exist for them.
Two young men have recently dedicated
themselves to be evangelists to their
people, but many more workers are
needed.
Pray:
- Lord, reveal Yourself to the Horned
Miao as the one who replaces
darkness, bondage and fear with
light, freedom, and peace. Cause
them to respond joyfully to the Good
News.
- As the village which has just become
Christian learns more about You,
call forth leaders and church
planters to reach other villages.
- Encourage those who are training
young Christians and the new
evangelists.
- Transform lives into Your likeness.
Make them bold witnesses.
- Raise up a linguist willing to
develop literacy materials and
translate the Bible into the Horned
Miao dialect.
- Speak to those who have the
resources to help fund development
of ministry tools (audio materials,
the Jesus film, written materials)
in Horned Miao. Cause them to be
cheerful givers to this work.
