The Otherworld, in Hmong belief, is lorded
over by two very fearful figures.
One,
Ntxwj Nyug, is the powerful
judge of the dead who decides the form in
which they will be reincarnated. Living
high on a lofty mountain, he also guards
gates which souls of the dead must pass
through to return to the village of their
ancestors. Hmong who deserve punishment are
often reincarnated as cattle in the large
herd which he keeps to support his great
feasts.
Nyuj Vaj Tuam Teem,
the other lord of the Otherworld, sits on a
huge throne. From his writing desk he
issues licenses for rebirth. When a license
expires,
Ntxwj Nyug alone can decide
whether to extend a person’s life on earth.

Pray:
- Father, we thank You for sending Jesus
to earth. Because You are full of
mercy, we pray that the rising sun of
salvation will come to the Hmong--to
shine on those living in darkness and in
the shadow of death, to guide their feet
into the path of peace. (Luke 1:78-79)
- Walk with workers facing unexpected
changes as a result of government
regulations affecting their visas.
Clear the way for them as they leave
their present home; provide the extra
financial resources needed. Give clear
future direction and open doors for them
to continue their work with the Hmong.
- Protect all those who are working in
hostile environments; block every effort
of Satan to prevent Your word from
reaching the Hmong.
