The fever rises, and his boy loses his hearing. The man doesn’t know what to think, but he stores all these things away in his heart.
Twelve years go by. The boy is now enrolled in a special school in the county seat, and the man has gone off to another province for work to ensure he has the money to give the boy all he needs and deserves. Quite unexpectedly, he hears his village’s desire for him to come back and represent them as the village Communist Party Secretary. Though he could have made much better money away from the village, he returns to do his share to help.
One day, some foreigners come to the village, and as the village head, he is showing them around and showing off the local accomplishments, as any good community official would do. The conversation turns to medical needs of the village, and he mentions five local deaf children, among them his son (though he knows the boy is long past being helped)
One of the foreigners says, “As long as you turn to these little spirits, you will continue to receive nothing but their hate and deception. The Most High God, though, he not only has power over these evil spirits and power to do anything he wants, but longs for nothing more than to help his creation. You need to have a follower of the Most High God see your son.” “Where can I find one of those?”
And so the conversation started. Words seemed to be flowing out of my mouth, and I did have some fear for their repercussions, but Jesus’ words in Mark 9, “Anything is possible if a person believes,” kept coming to mind. I must step forward in faith and tell this man that regardless of whether his son is deaf due to demonic possession (from rituals done during his son’s sickness) or simply from a high temperature, the Most High God not only wants to heal, but has the power to heal.
Quickly after that, we had lunch and the conversation was put on hold, but as soon as we started on the trail out of the village with the secretary as our guide, we launched into stories of the Most High God. I shared with him about the creation of angels, the casting out of Satan, creation of man, and the fall, before I introduced any of God’s purposes toward his creation. I shared how man had sinned, and thus suffered separation from this Most High God. I said, “It was then the Most High God put into action a plan to bring about the Mystery that will heal this separation and give mankind the ability to have a direct relationship with the Most High God.”
With the passing of each story, the flood, Abraham’s life, and Joseph’s story, he would ask, “So what is the Mystery?” To which I would calmly answer, “Not yet, I will get there.” Due to a broken ankle of one of our group on the trail and the subsequent efforts to bring him down the mountain, the story telling was cut off there and no more was said that day. He knows of a Most High God and is ready to believe this God can heal his son.
I ask you to pray for two specific things.
