WF’s mother was bothered by the demons only once in recent weeks on the 15th day of the Chinese New Year.  It is a special day on which families gather together to eat a round glutinous dessert and celebrate the last day of the New Year festival.  Many Bouyei observe the day with ancestor worship.  A neighbor asked WF’s mother if she had any incense or paper money left to burn as an offering to the “ancestors”.  Somehow, this triggered thoughts in her mother.  Perhaps it was her looking back to what she had done for so many years, like Lot’s wife, that allowed the demons to come back.  They began to chant through her again. LJ and her husband, the  Christian couple who have been ministering to them, prayed hard and called others to pray. LJ’s husband, Mr. L, felt strong spiritual opposition and decided to go to his own home to pray for them.  Three times he saw a vision of the cross and WF’s mother at the foot of the cross, joyful and smiling.  A little later he returned to their house and said, “Jesus has come.”  The demons then said , “Well, we can’t stay any longer; we have to go now.”  WF’s mother also said, “Jesus has come” and the demons left her.

Other than the one episode, the family has been doing well.  God has been helping WF’s mother when she goes out to collect trash. He has given her the physical strength necessary as well as the ability to find the trash.  Not only are their needs being met, but they have more than they had before.

WF tells me several people have come to her mother for spirit services and she has told them she now follows Jesus.  She relates to them how she was delivered. WF’s father takes his Bible and the Jesus video with him whenever he goes out to visit friends and he shares!  Mr. W, the man with lung cancer returned to his province in early February. Mr. W’s wife prayed to receive the Lord and the believers helped them dedicate their home to God.  Mr. W has four grown sons living in the city with their families.  All four of them along with their wives have prayed to receive the Lord. The four couples and their children number over 20 people and are the beginning of a new fellowship, led by LJ and her husband on Sunday evenings.

Over the past ten days Mr. Wang’s condition has steadily deteriorated.  He has been coughing up blood, eating very little and having great difficulty breathing.  His four sons and their wives have returned to the province and are now in the midst of a spiritual battle. The battle is over whether Mr. W should have a Christian or a Buddhist funeral when he dies. Mr. W has clearly stated he wants a Christian funeral. Mrs. W’s siblings are very hostile and opposed to their new faith. They are threatening the family and have torn down some posters that the believers posted on the walls of the home.  Fearing reprisal from the spirits, they are demanding a guarantee that nothing bad will happen in their village within 120 days if a Christian funeral is held.  The sons have called other believers desperate to know what to do.  Pray for the ministry of LJ and Mr. L.  They are key people in the birth of the church among the Bouyei in the city.  She is head of the children’s program on Sunday afternoons.  They are leading two fellowships on Saturday and Sunday evenings.  They are the prayer support and the strength of these two families of new believers.  They have their own financial stresses as they support two children still in high school back in the province.  They are only about 3 years old in the Lord themselves.
