ZJQ is a 29 year old widow with two children.  Five years ago she injured her right foot.  A sore grew and spread until both legs were badly infected. A year ago she encountered a cult in her home village that instructed her not to get medical care. A few weeks ago she was brought to the clinic.

She will need an amputation of her left leg and possibly of the right as well. But she is ready for the surgery. The smell of the sores and the sight of the wounds are hard for even her to bear.  She is not ready to hear the Gospel. She has faced rejection and ill treatment at every turn.  Her landlord evicted her. Taxis will not stop for her.  Even when we finally got her into a hospital to get the amputation done, they would not put her in a room but instead left her in a hallway.

ZJQ has responded as one might expect to this rejection.  She is abusive to her children.  She seems quite hardened. MY has taken special pains to minister to her. For the week before admitting her into the hospital, MY took her into the clinic every day to dress her wounds. She arranged the hospital admission and has been following her progress there.  From Bad to Worse
26 year old TLZ’s life had gone from bad to worse.  His first wife had left him and their daughter for another man.  He remarried. Last fall he started to swell up.  He was admitted to a hospital accessible from his home in a Lisu area. He improved little there. When his family decided to take him out of the hospital to send him to the city the doctors said he would die. He came to the city in the company of a Lisu believer.

After two days away from home he believed and declared he was no longer afraid to die. By the grace of the Lord he responded to oral medications. The swelling resolved and the kidney function improved but still is not back to normal.  Finding, But Not Keeping
21 month old LXB’s parents took seriously the promise they had made to pay half of the cost of his heart surgery. When they saw a small package on the hospital floor, it seemed at first that God might have been providing for them.  But they knew what that the thick but uncounted for wad of money might represent.  Someone might have sold his house or taken on long-term obligations to family, friends and neighbors to try to gather enough money to get care for a child.

Conscious of what was right in God’s eyes; they waited around until they saw a distraught, poorly dressed person searching for something.  When that person said he had lost exactly the amount they found, they turned the money over to him (12,000 RMB). They committed the surgery to the Lord.  It was done with little delay.

LXB recovered quickly and was out of the hospital in less than two weeks.  His parents were overjoyed and grateful that the Lord had seen them through it all. Spirit medium Mom and Husband in Jail
WF’s mother is a spirit medium. She did not seem to want to talk about the Lord again while her husband was incarcerated. Two weeks ago, they saw a VCD called “Good News”.  They received it well. Not only WF, but also her father and three older children watched with eyes glued to the screen.

WF’s husband has a chance of coming out of jail if he pays a fine of a few thousand RMB.  The details were sketchy but they seemed hopeful.  Please continue to pray for this family.

WF continues to hunt for recyclables from about 7 pm to 1 or 2 am. But she says she prays whenever she encounters a difficulty or needs to find enough money to feed her family and feels God is with her.

Bouyei couple
The Bouyei couple who believed and have backslidden due to parental opposition have been facing additional pressures.  Their younger daughter had been having diarrhea for several weeks before they went for care at the clinic.  LBX herself is pregnant again. She told me that she did not want another daughter.  There is intense pressure in Bouyei culture to have at least one son.  She said she’d been struggling for weeks about this pregnancy.  She wanted to get an ultrasound to find out the sex and if it was a girl, to abort it.  She said she could not care for two children both not walking yet.  The 2nd daughter turned one this month but is not close to walking.  By God’s grace, last week she told me that she had decided not to get the abortion. (She had gotten an ultrasound but not found out the sex.)

I have encouraged her again to turn back to the Lord for his strength and help.  In our last conversation, she was recounting some of the ways she had been helped by some believers 2 ½ years ago, when she was first introduced to God.  Good Overcoming Evil
Mrs. W is a Chinese woman came to faith Christmas 2004 but didn’t really start growing until February this year. Her husband suffered an acute coronary event which caused her to seek and experience His help in time of trouble.  She was baptized less than 3 weeks ago. Since then her faith has taken off.  She has been actively sharing with her co-workers. Before, she lamented their immorality and how they were a stumbling block to her. Now, she is influencing them. She took 5 of them with her to an Easter service last night and at least 2 of them are quite interested in learning more.
