In Myanmar, the day you are
born on is very significant. Not only should your name begin
with one of the set of letters designated for that day of
the week, but the day also signifies your character. Some
days are better than others.
Saturday born is not
preferred: one born on Saturday will be 'hot'; either very
famous and volatile, or bad luck. Thus, if the firstborn
child is born on Saturday, a special ritual is invoked,
whereby the father 'passes over' the newborn seven times
with a knife, to sever him or her from the spirit of
Saturday. Often that child may be named with a name from
another day.
Pray:
- For people to be freed
from the bondage to their 'birthday' and be able to live
free with their identity in Christ
- For Christians to
sensitively witness to Buddhist people about the freedom
from this bondage that comes with new birth in Christ
